Interview with Trent 'Maxi' Maxwell from Bondi Rescue

After Trent 'Maxi' Maxwell, one of the lifesaving superstars of the hit TV show Bondi Rescue, recently came and visited Tangalooma we took the chance to ask him a few quick questions:

For our readers that aren't familiar with the show, how long have you been a lifeguard, and how many of those years have been spent on camera?

I have been a lifeguard for 10 years and 9 of those have been on camera with Bondi Rescue.

What made you decide to become a lifeguard? Did you grow up at the beach?

I really enjoyed the beach as a kid and I was lucky to be given an opportunity to be a trainee at bondi and do an apprenticeship.

How do you like to spend your time when your not doing your day job/filming?

Surfing , training and traveling

First a TV star, then came Cleo's Bachelor of the Year, and now an entrepreneur with your own swimwear label... how did that come about?

I was in the right place at the right time I am very lucky to have found my business partner Leigh we are a good team and we are looking forward to a successful future with the label.

What does your brand name mean?

I see a lot of sunrises at bondi they are so beautiful anyone and everyone that is at the beach for a sunrise will just stop and watch so why not make swim wear and active wear that reflects sunrises and the colours you see when you are watching them.

You recently ventured up to Tangalooma for a visit and to do a photoshoot for your label, what was the drawcard for choosing sunny Moreton Island as your destination?

I have heard a lot about it and I wanted to check it out, it is a beautiful island and I will be back again.

Business aside, what did you enjoy most about your mini-vacay?

The safari to the sand dunes it was so much fun.

With a beach for an office, there are obviously some big perks to your role, but the job also comes with a lot of responsibility, keeping the community safe. What are some tips and tricks you've picked up on during your time as lifeguard that you could share with our guests to keep them safe and happy whilst enjoying our beach?

Make sure you swim between the flags if your not a strong swimmer stay close to shore between flags remember " swimming is a skill, not a fear" make sure you slip slop slap and drink plenty of water and also put your rubbish in bin if you need any help or have any questions ask a lifeguard.
