Wildlife Rescue - Sugar Glider Possum Stuck in a Brick!

Reception called us today, saying that a guest had reported a sugar glider stuck in a brick near the back sports oval. When I went to look for it, it turned out to be a fully grown possum, rather than a glider. The poor thing was wedged into the brick with its back down and feet, tail and head sticking out the top. I have no idea how it got itself stuck in there like that but it certainly looked very uncomfortable. It also had the sun straight on it, so it must have been very hot and dehydrated. Who knows how long it had been stuck in there!

As I was expecting a little sugar glider, I hadn’t brought big gloves. So I used a blanket to carefully pull the possum out. They do have very sharp teeth and will certainly try to bite in self defence if they feel threatened! I was going to have a good look over the possum for injuries and try to give it some water and electrolytes but it ran off as soon as it was out of the brick. Clearly happy to be free and obviously not injured, which was great to see.
