Tangalooma hosts The Kids Cancer Project on their 10,000km journey to raise awareness

On Tuesday the 8th of August Tangalooma Island Resort’s whale watching cruise was taken over by some of Australia’s unknown superheros with patients and families from The Kids' Cancer Project cruising into Moreton Bay for a fun filled day of Whale Watching

The Kids’ Cancer Project team are currently making their way down the Eastern Coastline on a road trip in their brightly coloured bus on a mission to tell all Australians that kids with cancer need science.

Retired coach driver and founder of The Kids Cancer Project, Col Reynolds will be embarking on the mammoth road trip with his team to spread that word that the only way to help children overcome childhood cancer is through scientific research.

“In Australia, 950 children are diagnosed each year and three die every week,” Mr Reynolds says. “I always carry with me the pain and suffering that I’ve seen too many of my young friends and their families go through. As I entered my 78th year, I renewed my promise to continue to fight for the lives of these children every day of mine. I invite others to join me, so we can find a cure and transform treatment.”

First stop on the road trip aptly named the ‘Science Project’ was Col’s hometown of Townsville. The bus then made its way to Mackay, Bundaberg, Sunshine Coast and Brisbane , before momentarily trading the bitumen for the ocean, as patients and families cruised across Moreton Bay for a fun-filled day of whale watching.

The partnership between Tangalooma Island Resort and The Kids’ Cancer Project was driven by Resort Manager, Brianna Preobrajensky and her own personal experience with her son Oscar’s battle with cancer.

Oscar’s battle with cancer a few years ago inspired Brianna to initiate the partnership, which for the second year running sees $5 donated to The Kids’ Cancer Project for every whale sighted from the Tangalooma Jet.

Tangalooma endeavours to raise even more for the charity with collection tins on board the vessel and merchandise available for sale throughout the resort.

The Kids' Cancer Project has been able to invest over $36 million in scientific studies to find better treatments and a cure for this disease.

Through the generosity of the community, over 40 events will be held along the ‘Science Project’ road trip route which wraps up in Sydney on 1st September after visiting New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT.
