The whales came up to within a meter of the boat!

Hands down, the best whale watch of the 2017 season! 17 Humpback whales delighted us with spectacular behavioural shows of breaches, tail throws, spy hops, and bubble trails!

The highlight of today's whale watch were two very curious whales. These whales formed a likening towards us as they repeatedly swam underneath the Tangalooma Jet, surfacing only meters away from us! One of these whales felt very playful today, as it kept rolling over on the surface of the water and performed many pec slaps in a row, while the other whale preferred people watching.

We could nearly touch this whale as it spy hopped a meter away from us! A spy hop occurs when the whale slowly lifts its head out of the water, with its pectoral flippers extended under the water. Some guests on the bow of the vessel also got a drenching as the whale surfaced right next to the bow, with its exhaled whale blow soaking the guests! As the whale surfaces and exhales, it forms a condensation cloud as the water running off its back is pushed into the air by the exhaled air.
