Bubble streams

Another excellent whale watch aboard the Tangalooma Jet where we were lucky enough to see 13 Humpback Whales powering North towards their breeding grounds. We had a juvenile at the start giving us a show with a series of super impressive breaches, including a couple of full body breaches. We had a few smaller pods join up to make a larger pod of 6, where we had 2 adult males fighting for the females, making quite an entertaining show for guests on board. We also saw a series of head lunges, rolling around and a tail slap.

We also saw one of these whales bubble streaming which is where they blow a continuous stream of bubbles under the water, which researchers believe is a way that males try to obscure the view of a female from other males in the area. Very interesting stuff!
