Up Close and Personal

We were very lucky today to see our 3rd calf of the season, swimming with her mother up North being escorted by another very large female. This calf was very young and was excited to show off for the lucky guests aboard the whale watch with a small breach. Escorts help the mother protect the new calves from predators as they travel on their long migration. We also got an amazing view of these whales when the escort surfaced right beside the Tangalooma Jet and gave us an amazing up close view of just how large these majestic mammals are.

There were also a couple of bottlenose dolphins that were darting through the water, hunting fish out in the open waters on the north side of Moreton Island. It was great to see how fast and agile they can be.
