Whales sighted off Tangalooma Island Resort!

Wow what a surprising day, as we saw whales heading south and literally off our doorstep! 3 Humpback whales (2 adults and a juvenile) delighted guests during the whale watch cruise, as they continued to surface northwards. We saw epic behaviours from these whales including breaching, bubble trails & surfacing! Just as we were finishing watching these whales off Cape Moreton, we noticed a larger pod of whales in the distance heading south back to Antarctica!!

It was great to see them beginning their southbound journey, and we were wondering how long it would take till we see them venture back into the calmer waters of Moreton Bay. These thought processes didn’t take long, as 30 minutes after we arrived back at Tangalooma, we sighted two whales surfacing just 30 metres from the Tangalooma Jetty! All guests around the Resort were stoked to see these giant mammals only metres away from them and they certainly enjoyed whale watching from the shoreline of Tangalooma! When the Humpbacks migrate south to Antarctica, they can sometimes travel into Moreton Bay to rest in the calmer waters of the bay. Therefore in the next few weeks to months, we are expecting to see plenty more of these majestic mammals right off our doorstep.

The next few weeks of whale watching are going to be crazy, with whales travelling north, south and into Moreton Bay! Keep your eyes peeled for these incoming whales at all times everyone!
