Sex: Male
Birth Date: 27th January 1997
Position in Pod: Second calf of Bess, that we know of.
History: Nari is an excitable dolphin, whom often likes to
look up at guests on the jetty. It is fantastic that Bess,
trusted us enough to bring such a young calf into the area
around the Tangalooma jetty. The name Nari was chosen
as it is an aboriginal word meaning “Friend”.
ID Features: Nari's dorsal fin is similar in shape to his mothers (Bess). Nari
is a very dark colour and has a deep notch in his tail fluke
from a fishing line entanglement. Nari, being a male, is
already receiving a lot of rake marks. These marks usually
heal within 3 weeks and do not seems to leave evident scar
tissue at such a young age.
Personality/traits: Nari loves chasing fish up onto the beach
around guests’ ankles and provides much entertainment to
people watching from the jetty.
Nari displays many interesting natural behaviours like spy
hops, tail slaps and pectoral fin waves.
