Tinkerbell

Sex: Female

Birth Date: Approx. 1990

Position in Pod: Calf of Beauty. “Tink” usually feeds in lane 2 and is quite a dominant dolphin.
Inshore bottlenose dolphin groups are matrilineal.

History: “Tink” is now the proud mother of two babies, Tangles and her new calf.

ID Features: Tinkerbell is a very sleek looking dolphin that is a slightly lighter shade of grey than the other dolphins. “Tink’s” dorsal fin is very well shaped and has no apparent markings, (almost like a surf boards fin).

Personality/traits: “Tink” occasionally has stalked barnacles on her fins, just like many of the other dolphins. Stalked barnacles are small crustaceans that attach themselves to many marine animals. Stalked barnacles are not a parasite, but a commensal organism.
“Tink” occasionally makes the ‘provisioning’ program interesting, along with Echo, Nari and Rani as they have in the past brought the staff fish, instead of the staff bringing them fish.
When the dolphins have caught fish larger than they can consume they give them to the staff on the shoreline. The dolphins have bought in all sorts of fish from 1 metre eels to bream and mullet.
The most memorable occasion was when “Tink” caught a 4.0 kg flathead and played with it for about 30 minutes in front of 200 guests viewing from the jetty. During this time she broke of its head and then dropped it at one of the staff member’s feet.
