Paradise in Queensland
It is often said that living in Australia, we are among some of the luckiest people in the world. This country offers growth, prosperity, stability, and untouched terrain that stretches for kilometres and kilometres, just to name a few benefits of living here. So, why, when the chance arises, do we choose to leave the country to holiday in another country that offers not nearly as much as this country has to offer?
Queensland, in particular, is home to some of Australia’s most prestigious destinations such as; the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast, Great Barrier Reef, Whitsundays, and of course Moreton Island. Moreton Island is 38 kilometres long and 9 kilometres wide, consisting entirely of sand, making it the third largest sand island in the world. The island is home to the highest coast sand dune in the world, Mount Tempest, at a height of 285 metres, providing a 360 degree view of Moreton Bay and beyond. It is also 98% national park, making it one of the least polluted and disturbed coastal environments in Queensland. This information alone should be enough to persuade anyone to want to explore the island, not to mention the plethora of wild life on the island and in the bay.
But, enough about the spectacular environmental aspects of the island, if you’re not one for bush bashing, and visiting world famous land marks, then the island also has a number of exhilarating activities offered through the resort on the island, Tangalooma Island Resort. Tangalooma has over 80 tours and activities on offer, such as sand tobogganing, parasailing, whale watching, snorkelling, fishing and so, so much more.
When discussing all of the activities and tours Tangalooma offer, you can’t go past their dolphin feeding program. The dolphin feeding program is conducted nightly, from around 7pm. A pod of resident dolphins swim into the bay to be hand fed by visitors and tourists on the island.
The dolphin feeding activity is included in a selection of accommodation and day cruise packages. The program is completely backed and supported by the Queensland government. So, be sure to include the dolphin feeding experience in your next Tangalooma package.
So, when you are planning your next family holiday, think closer to home, and forget about Thailand, Bali and the like, and come and visit the iconic, historic, and prestigious Moreton Island.
