Iconic Queensland Resort Backs Brisbane Golf Prodigy Harry Takis on Quest for The Masters
Tangalooma Island Resort, Moreton Island/Mulgumpin - The major sponsorship between iconic Queensland resort, Tangalooma Island Resort, and Brisbane’s own Harry Takis is proving to be a masterstroke as Australia’s number one amateur golfer competes this weekend in Dubai for a chance to qualify for the 2026 Masters Tournament.
The multi-year sponsorship, which began in April 2025, is a significant boost for the 20-year-old phenom, providing the sole major funding that enables him to continue his promising career. To progress his career, the Brisbane born and bred prodigy has embarked on the highly competitive USA College pathway, a proven route for elite amateurs to join professional golf leagues while also achieving an important education.
"Tangalooma has always been deeply invested in supporting Queensland's grassroots talent, whether in sports, community clubs, or local charities"
Since the partnership with the iconic Queensland resort began, Takis has been in scintillating form, a run of success that has seen him become Australia's number one ranked amateur golfer. The San Diego State University sophomore recently secured a dominant 11-stroke victory at the Singapore Open Amateur Championship.
This weekend, Takis faces his biggest challenge yet at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Dubai, the region’s premier pathway to the Masters. A victory at this prestigious event would earn him an invitation to play at the 2026 Masters at Augusta National. After competing in the event in 2023 as an 18-year-old, Takis feels his game has reached a new level. "Last time was a great learning experience, but I feel I'm in a much better position to be a contender this year. I'm ready to challenge for the win and hopefully earn the incredible rewards that come with it."
For Takis, the support from a local Brisbane institution is invaluable.
“To have the backing of Tangalooma Island Resort is a game-changer for me,” said Harry Takis. “This sponsorship allows me to fully concentrate on my golf and my studies without the financial stress of travelling and competing internationally. Knowing that a Brisbane company believes in me gives me extra motivation. Their support is crucial in my journey to compete on the world stage and chase my dream of playing in the Majors, and even a hometown Olympic Games.”
Tangalooma Island Resort has a long and proud history of supporting local communities, grassroots sports, charities, and individuals. This includes a continued history as a major partner of golf in Queensland, having been a major sponsor for many years of Nudgee Golf Club, Keperra Golf Club and the QLD PGA Championships. The resort is also a major sponsor of mental health charities, such as the White Cloud Foundation, and proudly founded and remains the major sponsor of the EcoMarines Foundation. As the largest environmental education learning charity in Queensland, the federally registered not-for-profit is involved with over 400 schools and Early Learning centres across the state. The partnership with Takis is a natural extension of this deep community commitment.
“Tangalooma has always been deeply invested in supporting Queensland's grassroots talent, whether in sports, community clubs, or local charities,” said David James, Director of Tangalooma Island Resort.
“Harry is a proud Brisbane born and bred product with the potential to be a world-beater. He embodies the spirit of hard work and dedication we admire. We are incredibly proud to support him on his quest to put Brisbane and Australia on the world map.”
Harry tees off in the first round of the 2025 Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship at Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis Course in Dubai at 8:13am (2:13pm AEST/Brisbane time) on Thursday 23rd October 2025. Tangalooma Island Resort wishes Harry all the best for the weekend ahead.
