Tangalooma welcomes 2032 Brisbane Olympics

With Brisbane named as the official host city of the 2032 Olympic Games on Wednesday 21 July, Tangalooma Island Resort is gearing up for a valuable and much needed tourism boost in the lead up to the Games.

Set upon the golden shores of Moreton Island and well loved by both domestic and international tourists alike for its amazing array of unique tours and activities including the opportunity to handfeed wild dolphins at sunset, Tangalooma is the perfect getaway – so close yet seemingly a world away from the excitement of the events, just perfect for some downtime.

As the largest and most prestigious mega sport event in the world, the Games are known as a catalytic force in driving tourism.

David James, Director at Tangalooma Island Resort, is thrilled with the announcement confirming Brisbane’s successful Olympics bid.

“We have previously seen the positive effect of the Olympic Games bringing increased tourism to host cities.

“When it comes to attracting international guests to our cities, Brisbane has long lived in the shadows of its larger Australian counterparts such as Sydney and Melbourne. The profile generated by Brisbane winning the rights to the 2032 Olympics will challenge these traditional itineraries.”

While locals all know and cherish our relaxed sub-tropical lifestyle, the Olympics provide a platform that will make the world-class beach, hinterland and urban experiences in our own backyard the envy of the world.”

After the forced closure of the resort for three months last year and over 18 months of uncertainty around travel, Tangalooma Island Resort has been busy refurbishing a swathe of hotel rooms in eager anticipation of returning interstate and international travellers in the months and years ahead.

“We continue to build Tangalooma’s profile as a destination that sits among some of Australia’s most iconic, with a major unique selling point attributed to our proximity to Brisbane, whilst feeling worlds away. We use the term ‘conveniently remote’ to describe Tangalooma’s location, and this desire for accessible wilderness will be a major driver of traveller demand in the post-COVID world,” continued Mr James.

Brisbane are the first host city to win an Olympic Games under new bidding procedures and the first to win unopposed since the 1984 Los Angeles Games.
