TANGALOOMA INTRODUCES FREE EDUCATION PROGRAM

Tangalooma Wild Dolphin Resort has launched the Mobile Marine Education Centre (MMEC) whereby our team of Marine Scientists visit your school to deliver a motivating and educational presentation on marine mammals, eco systems and the conservation of Moreton Bay.

Free of charge and offered to primary and secondary schools, through the use of PowerPoint presentations, information fact sheets and aids such as bones, teeth and other display material, the Marine Scientists aim to teach the next generation about what they can do to help conserve the environment.

Mr Trevor Hassard, Director of the Tangalooma Marine Education and Conservation Centre (TMECC) developed the program with his team to provide another avenue for students to learn about the eco systems and conservation of our marine environment.

"As we still witness a great number of unnecessary casualties within the marine environment, we feel that it is an important duty to provide this free program, as through education you can improve the conservation of marine life" Trevor Hassard said.

"Over a two month period, TMECC staff rescued five sea turtles from the waters of Moreton Bay. We found fishing hooks, plastic bags, fishing line and trawler nets to be the main causes of death as the turtles either consumed them or became entangled, consequently leading to death."

Trialed since September 2007, this free program has been very popular with a high response rate from schools in South East Queensland. Bookings and inquiries for presentations in the 2008 school year are now open.  Please find following additional information about the program as well as enquiry submission form.
