TANGALOOMA NAMED AS ONE OF LONELY PLANET’S ‘TOP 100 BEACHES’ IN THE WORLD

Tangalooma has been awarded the prestigious title of the 'World's Best Beach to See Nature' by Lonely Planet, securing its place among the top 100 beaches globally.

Highlighted in Lonely Planet's latest publication, "100 of the World's Most Incredible Beaches," Tangalooma Beach is lauded for its tranquil waters, rich marine life, and the perfect balance of seclusion and accessibility.

“From the serene clarity of the calm waters to the captivating shipwrecks, the infinite stretches of golden sands and the pristine natural surroundings, Tangalooma stands as a destination on Earth like no other, right here on Brisbane’s doorstep.”

Situated just 25km off Brisbane's shoreline on Moreton Island / Mulgumpin, Tangalooma stands out as one of the rare beaches on Australia's East Coast that offers breath taking overwater sunset views.

Described in the Lonely Planet guide as “Fringing the island’s protected west coast, the long, narrow strip of sand known as Tangalooma Beach feels a world away from the city, backed by bushland and lapped by calm turquoise waters frequented by dolphins, turtles, rays and elusive dugongs,”

The book praises the easily accessible Tangalooma Wrecks as 'encrusted with corals that attract plenty of fish, making for excellent snorkelling.'

Bernie O’Keefe, Head of Sales & Marketing at Tangalooma Island Resort, expressed excitement about Lonely Planet's recognition, emphasising the importance of preserving the beach's natural environment for visitors to have extraordinary and unforgettable experiences.

"It is exciting to see Tangalooma’s incredible beach being recognised by Lonely Planet, though we must confess, a lot of our regular guests might secretly wish it remained their cherished hidden gem,” Mr O’Keefe said.

“From the serene clarity of the calm waters to the captivating shipwrecks, the infinite stretches of golden sands and the pristine natural surroundings, Tangalooma stands as a destination on Earth like no other, right here on Brisbane’s doorstep.”

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner sees Tangalooma's inclusion in Lonely Planet's Best Beaches as another feather in Brisbane's cap, countering the misconception that the city lacks great beaches. He highlights Moreton Island and Tangalooma as bucket-list destinations with pristine white sand, incredible marine life, and world-class snorkeling and diving.

Schrinner believes that Brisbane's diverse offerings, including culinary and arts scenes, nature and wildlife, and vibrant entertainment precincts, contribute to its status as one of the best cities in the world to live and visit.

The recognition from Lonely Planet is expected to boost visitor numbers to Tangalooma, which have steadily increased in popularity in recent years. Day trips offerings are strategically designed to manage the flow of guests to avoid overcrowding and minimise the impact on ambience and environment.
