First Humpback whales sighted in 2020

After what has been an absolutely crazy start to the year, Tangalooma Island Resort's first whale watch for the season finally set out for an epic day out on the water. After heading out from Brisbane, then over to Tangalooma, over 20 humpback whales were sighted, and at one stage we were surrounded by about 8 humpback whales when all of a sudden an almighty splash was seen off the (starboard) the front right hand side of the boat. A whale had propelled itself to the surface using its powerful tail and leaped into the air, providing lots of excitement for the watching guests. Researchers believe this is a form of communication amongst the whales.

On the cruise we where also lucky enough to encounter 3 pods of dolphins , turtles and some big sting rays over the sand banks. A great start to whats going to be a very exciting Whale season!
