Tangalooma Island Resort Sets the Stage for Environmental Solutions through Global Link Queensland

Tangalooma Island Resort is proud to announce that it is once again hosting Global Link Queensland, an internationally acclaimed educational event for primary and secondary school students. Assembling students from across the globe, this forum offers a unique platform for passionate discussions and exchanges on pressing environmental issues. The two-day event, taking place on 3rd & 4th August, will unite young minds from diverse cultures to drive meaningful action for a sustainable planet.

The urgency of climate change, waste management, and ocean plastic pollution has spurred governments and individuals worldwide to take action. Global Link Queensland serves as a powerful platform, empowering students to initiate crucial discussions on these environmental challenges and fostering collaboration between students and local environmental leaders.

Originally launched as Global Link Singapore in 2014, the event has since evolved into the benchmark for global communication and idea sharing on environmental concerns. The 2019 Singapore event witnessed active participation from 313 middle and high school students representing 61 schools across 6 countries, fostering the development of collaborative environmental solutions.

Now, Global Link Queensland takes the reins, bringing together students from various cultures and countries to connect with like-minded peers and develop essential skills, including leadership, critical-thinking, bilingual abilities (for second language students), and presentation prowess.

In 2019, Global Link Queensland provided a successful platform for Australian, Japanese, Chinese, and other international students to collaborate on environmental solutions. In 2023, the event has expanded further, with representatives from Australia, Japan, Italy, Germany, Brazil, Poland, and Switzerland coming together at Tangalooma to address pressing global challenges from their respective countries.

In an inspiring effort to foster a sustainable future, Global Link Queensland aims to take a significant stride in cultivating young environmental leaders. The students are mentored prior to the event & judged on their presentation by a panel of esteemed environmental experts, including Professor Mark Orams, Deputy Vice Chancellor Research at the Auckland University of Technology, who looks to nurture their passion for the environment and encourage them to drive positive change.

According to Professor Orams, "Investing time in encouraging young environmental leaders is a huge privilege and one of the most important impacts we can make for our shared future. The Global Link programme provides us with this wonderful opportunity to encourage and support young people who have a passion for the environment. I am delighted to be involved in supporting this outstanding initiative."

As David James, Director at Tangalooma Island Resort, highlights, "The breathtaking natural setting at Tangalooma provides the perfect backdrop for these young participants to explore environmental issues and seek innovative solutions. Tangalooma's commitment to sustainability aligns with the core values of Global Link Queensland, making it an ideal location to empower the next generation of environmental leaders."

Day two of the forum will be dedicated to fun, with the students enjoying a thrilling Desert Safari tour with Sand Tobogganing, followed by the Tangalooma Whale Watching Cruise, where Eco Rangers will explain how the resort successfully transitioned from the largest whaling station in the southern hemisphere to a sustainable tourism experience.

By hosting Global Link Queensland, Tangalooma endeavours to inspire and empower future environmental leaders, encouraging the students to spearhead conversations about vital environmental issues. This landmark event aims to position Queensland, particularly Brisbane, as a global leader in combatting the challenges affecting the entire planet.
