Kooringal
Kooringal, located on the Southern end of Moreton Island, is a sleepy little town consisting within the governing bounds of Brisbane. Kooringal has a population of 297 (Census 2011) with residents living within the few streets of housing, all within walking distance to the South-Western coastline of Moreton Island. The notable highlights of Kooringal include the Oyster Farm and Gutter Bar.
The family run Oyster Farm has been producing rock oysters for many years, all within the pristine waters of Moreton Bay. The Oyster Farm uses an environmentally sustainable method of farming, and won the 2010 National Landcare Award for Sustainable Farm Practices.
Kooringal's "World Famous" Gutter Bar is renowned for its fresh oysters (from the local Oyster Farm) and seafood supplied by local trawlers. The Gutter Bar is a popular spot for locals and tourists with its screens for sporting events, and a convenience store stocked with supplies.
