humpack Whales heading south in a hurry

The whales were certainly full of energy today, as they were moving very fast in a southwards direction. Humpback whales normally swim at a speed of 5-6 knots. However, today the whales exceeded this and were swimming faster at a speed of around 7-8 knots.

Guests on board Australia's largest dedicated whale watching boat, the Tangalooma Jet, were lucky to also see a pod of Common Dolphins that cruised in the waves produced by the boat. A total of 15 Humpback whales were also seen today by our fantastic guests traveling on the whale watching cruise from Brisbane.
