Geoff Aquino, known as 'The Drone Guy,' is a Noosa-based videographer and drone pilot whose work offers a unique perspective on Queensland's landscapes. As a colourblind artist, Geoff brings a distinct viewpoint to his aerial videography, capturing the beauty of the environment in ways that transcend traditional colour limitations. His passion for storytelling through stunning visuals has led him to document some truly iconic locations, including the Tangalooma Wrecks and Moreton Island.
Recently, Geoff collaborated with Tangalooma Island Resort to showcase the launch of the 2025 whale watching season. He captured an expansive, whale-inspired sand art installation created by renowned artist Owen Cavanagh along the resort's picturesque beachfront. Geoff's aerial footage provided a fresh perspective on the connection between art, nature, and the annual whale migration through Moreton Bay.
Working alongside artists and organisations with a strong connection to nature is something Geoff values deeply. His collaboration with Tangalooma Island Resort reflects this passion, combining his love of the outdoors with a chance to highlight important moments in the natural calendar, like the return of the humpback whales. Projects like these not only showcase his technical skill, but also his commitment to telling stories that inspire people to appreciate and protect the environment around them.
Geoff's journey into drone videography was driven by his desire to capture the world from a new perspective. Being colourblind, rather than proving a limitation, has become an asset, allowing him to see extra details and interpret landscapes in unique ways. This distinctive viewpoint has enabled him to create compelling visual narratives that resonate with viewers and highlight the hidden beauty of Queensland's terrain.
Through his lens, Geoff continues to offer a window into the wonders of Queensland's natural beauty, connecting audiences with the landscapes and wildlife that define the region. Check out some of Geoff's shots over the years from Tangalooma and Moreton Island:
