Summer just around the corner

With summer just around the corner the temperature's starting to heat up and so is the whale watching every pod we saw today had calves! The whales have moved further down the bay we encountered our first pod opposite the shipwrecks with a mother and calf "Logging" this is where the whale rest's one half of its brain at a time whilst the other half regulates breathing and buoyancy. The whales were in about 7 meters of water and almost motionless in the clear water!

We then saw a large pod 4 adults and 2 calves the smaller one had a grey tinge which is a sign he is less than 2 weeks old, The youngster stole the show demonstrating how well he could tail slap.

Research estimates that the Humpback whale population is increasing 10-15% every year. This means we can expect our whale watches to only get better!

All in all we saw a total of 11 humpback whales including: 7 adults and 4 calves!
