Tripadvisor crowns Tangalooma as one of Australia’s Best Family Hotels

Tripadvisor’s 2020 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards ranks Tangalooma Island Resort as one of the top 3 Family Hotels in Australia.

Whilst COVID restrictions have forced borders to close, Queensland families can be thankful that there are still plenty of world class award-winning family hotels and experiences right here in our own backyard.

Tangalooma Island Resort is one of these iconic travel destinations, yet it remains a bit of a local secret. Just a 75-minute scenic boat cruise from Brisbane finds you on the other side of Moreton Bay where stunning white sands and crystal-clear blue waters have many mistaking they have arrived in Tahiti by mistake. And with so many activities on offer from the adrenaline-fuelled sand tobogganing and ATV quad bikes to more nature-based experiences such as snorkelling the famous Tangalooma shipwrecks, spotting turtles and dugongs on a Marine Discovery Cruise or feeding the resident kookaburras, Tangalooma has more unique experiences than most families often fit into a lifetime!

But this secret-spot has now been exposed to a much wider audience, with the world’s largest and most respected travel review site Tripadvisor recognising Tangalooma Island Resort as one of the Top 3 Family Hotels in Australia and one of the Top 10 Family Hotels in the South Pacific region.

Tripadvisor’s 2020 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards are based on millions of real guest reviews across hotels worldwide. Twelve months of reviews are sorted by category & region, with the very best hotels awarded a Best of the Best honour, classing them among the top 1% of hospitality businesses around the globe. What makes these awards so coveted is that they do not focus on how fancy or expensive a hotel is, but instead it levels the playing field to celebrate those that deliver the greatest overall guest satisfaction.

Commenting on this recent success, Tangalooma Island Resort’s Marketing Director Bernie O’Keefe said “It’s great to see that we are hitting the mark as a family-friendly destination. We are lucky to have such a stunning location so close to a major city, but it’s great that our guests feel that the proximity to Brisbane and ease of access is being matched by the variety and calibre of tours and activities and overall experience on offer. It’s an honour to be recognised for delivering on that premise.”

“Families also keep telling us how safe they feel when they arrive at Tangalooma.” he continued. “There are no cars, highways or traffic jams to worry about. Our calm waters mean you don’t have to worry about the waves, and even when the Resort is at capacity, it often feels like you have the beach all to yourself.”

Having been locally owned and operated for 40 years by the Osborne family, Tangalooma is also one of the very few places in the world where you can handfeed wild dolphins, with a world-leading dolphin care team tasked with ensuring sustainable feeding practices are maintained, where the welfare of the dolphins is paramount. This is just one of many family-friendly animal encounters that the Resort has built its reputation on.

The Resort has a wide range of accommodation options for families including beachfront villas and units, and daily boat transfers direct from Brisbane to the Resort make getting there a breeze. But the drawcard is the amazing array of island tours and activities for any family looking to keep the kids entertained whilst enjoying some downtime. Development on Moreton Island has been heavily restricted, meaning that 98% of the island remains National Park. It’s a great place to get away from the worries of day-to-day life, and its calm waters, stunning beach, Resort pools and relaxed dining options make it an attractive proposition for anyone looking to enjoy some adventure and family time away from the crowds.

With 5 of the top 10 Hotels honoured on this list located in Queensland, it’s definitely a boost for local tourism and it’s safe to say that Brisbane’s backyard is looking more attractive than ever for discerning travellers looking to get their travel fix without heading abroad.
