By Tangalooma Island Resort
For many years Tangalooma Island Resort has been a popular destination for locals wanting to come together and celebrate a 'true blue' Australia Day by the beach. And for good reason! Here is our list of reasons why a day trip from Brisbane to Tangalooma is a great way to spend Australia Day:
Immerse yourself in the untouched beauty of Australia by taking a trip on one of our island 4WD bus tours, all exploring different parts of Moreton Island. Spend the day taking a look at the rugged beauty of the island, as Tangalooma's expert tour guides educate you on the unique culture, history and natural environment of Moreton Island. There are currently 4 different bus tours available; Desert Safari, Northern Safari, and the new Southern Safari and Blue Lagoon Safari Tours.
What could be better than kicking back under the Queensland sun on Australia's best resort beach and enjoying some good old fashioned beach cricket on Australia Day. Take note of Tangalooma's house rules which include one hand one bounce, and that you can't go from batter to bowler (it's better when everybody gets a turn). You can either hire equipment from Tangalooma Watersports or bring your own set, but just remember if you consider yourself a local swing bowler, tape one side of the tennis ball for best results.
We all know that fun in the sun can make you very hungry, so fill your belly with some cold drinks and fresh seafood. Head over to the Beach Cafe or Fire & Stone to be treated with all your favourite seafood varieties - with both hot and cold options available.
After playing a couple of games of beach cricket in the morning, take a much needed innings break and head over to the B&B's Bar to catch Australia play England in the final game of the One Day International series.
There aren't many animals more iconic to Australia then the lovable laughing larrikin known as the Kookaburra. A regular to the resort, Kookaburras love visiting as they are treated with some tasty treats by the Eco Rangers from Tangalooma's Marine Education and Conservation Centre.
An iconic scene at Tangalooma is having a few drinks in the shade while watching guests get competitive with Beach Volleyball. Don't want to just sit back and watch? Head down to Tangalooma Watersports to hire a Beach Volleyball and join in on the fun!
A great way to cool down on a warm beach day in Queensland is to enjoy an ice cold beverage, and with the newly renovated resort bar you can choose between a range of great local Australian beers on tap such as XXXX Gold, HAHN Super Dry and Tooheys New - but don't worry there are plenty of other international and craft beers available as well.
