Getaway this spring to Tangalooma

In this fast-paced digital dependent age, it is becoming increasingly difficult for us to switch off from the electronic devices that can be found in handbags, pockets and school bags. We are all guilty of overindulging on the recommended amount of screen time and often these behaviours and habits get unknowingly passed onto our children.

It seems the simple days of grabbing a bike and riding out on the streets until dark or grabbing a few friends and playing in a park are few and far between. These days, kids are more likely to grab a gaming console controller or scroll through and ‘like’ endless pictures of the outdoors rather than getting out in the fresh air and amongst nature.

Richard Louv coined the phrase ‘Nature Deficit Disorder’ in his book “Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children From Nature-Deficit Disorder”, where he suggests that both kids and parents find inside activities easier (and safer). Well, we’re no researchers, but we think a good balance is a great place to start, so with the weather turning it on for us in Queensland, we have put together a list of exciting spring day trip activities for all family members to enjoy. Be assured, the phones, tablets and electronic devices can, and will need to, be left behind for these activities and rather than scrolling through the perfect family activity picture, you will be living it.

Snorkel Tangalooma Wrecks Snorkel the Tangalooma Wrecks

  • Grab your mask, fins and snorkel and dive into the refreshing waters surrounding the Tangalooma Wrecks. Be amazed at the array of marine life that inhabit these 15 sunken vessels and with the weather getting warmer, now is the perfect time for you and the family to tick this activity off the bucket list!

Tangalooma Sand Tobogganing on Moreton Island Desert Safari Tour

  • Hold on tight for this bumpy adventure where you drive the 4WD bus tour track to the Moreton Desert. Learn about the island before getting sand between your toes, fingers and every other part of your body as you speed down the giant sand dunes in the exhilarating sport of sand tobogganing where you can reach speeds of up to 40km per hour!

Tangalooma Fish Feeding BoatMarine Discovery Cruise

  • Learn about the magnificent wildlife that inhabits the region (and still stay dry!) as you journey along the coastline with unobstructed views of the Tangalooma Wrecks and Moreton Bay. The cruise includes full Eco commentary to explain the habitats and behaviours of the local marine creatures.

Only a 75- minute boat trip from Brisbane, Tangalooma is the perfect place for a spring family day trip and is the perfect excuse to escape the rush, leave the phones behind and enjoy unforgettable family moments together (and don’t worry – you can still upload all your photos to insta once you get home!).
