Ticket to Paradise filmed here at Tangalooma

Ticket to Tangalooma: stunning waters of Moreton Bay feature in George Clooney & Julia Roberts’ new rom-com

Newly released feature film ‘Ticket to Paradise’, starring George Clooney & Julia Roberts, chose Tangalooma Island Resort and the clear blue waters of Moreton Bay as locations to film specific scenes from the movie back in December 2021.

Secured by the Queensland Government via Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy and co-produced by Working Title Films, Smokehouse Pictures, and Red Om Films, the film is set in Bali, Indonesia, but was filmed on location in sunny Queensland.

The western-side of Moreton Island was scouted as an initial location to film, with sheltered beaches, white sands, crystal clear waters & lack of marine stingers catapulting Tangalooma as the obvious choice to film many of the water-based scenes. The stunning Tangalooma sunset also makes an appearance towards the end of the movie.

“Only a 75-minute ferry ride from Brisbane, we often position ourselves as a ‘conveniently-remote tropical paradise’, with our seasonal temperatures, blue waters, tropical palms and relaxed island vibe perfectly fitting the Bali description.” Tangalooma Director of Marketing Bernie O’Keefe explained.

“While filming fell in peak season, we were still were able to accommodate a crew & cast of more than 300 thanks to the extensive beaches and we were delighted to showcase our stunning destination both to the stars and now to the world!”.

Lucky guests staying at the Resort were treated to front row seats to the action, with George Clooney stopping to chat to the waiting crowds before filming started each day. Various venue spaces across the resort were also used for hair and make up for the cast, as well as a fleet of Tangalooma vehicles to transport the main cast to set each day.

With a number of feature films choosing Tangalooma as their go-to island location (who can forget the horror-themed amusement park ‘Spooky Island’ in Scooby Doo?), the staff are well-versed in looking after large film crews and Hollywood superstars.

Featuring a number of other spectacular Queensland destinations across the Whitsundays, the Gold Coast and Brisbane, Ticket to Paradise is in movie theatres now!
