Tangalooma Island Resort Kicking Goals through its Community Sports Sponsorship Fund

Tangalooma Island Resort, a Brisbane family-owned and operated business, is proud to announce its ongoing dedication to supporting the local community and deserving charities.

While the resort has a long-standing tradition of giving back to the community through ongoing partnerships such as the Kids’ Cancer Project (Tangalooma donates $5 for each whale sighted during the whale watch season) or by donating a variety of fundraising prizes to worthy recipients such as the Daniel Morcombe Foundation, Hummingbird House and Friends with Dignity, it has recently expanded its philanthropic efforts to encompass the sponsorship of local community sporting groups, including the noteworthy White Cloud Sport program.

Tangalooma's passion for supporting its surrounding communities led to the establishment of the Community Sport Sponsorship Fund in 2022. This fund has significantly contributed to supporting local community sporting teams and clubs during the past two years, and the resort is excited to announce that the funding will continue in 2024.

The primary goal of the Community Sport Sponsorship Fund is to provide financial support to sporting teams and clubs, enabling them to cover expenses such as facility upgrades, equipment procurement, and uniform purchases. The fund establishes direct partnerships between the supported clubs and Tangalooma Island Resort, offering a variety of benefits to the clubs including access to discounted rates for club members on both accommodation and Day Cruises to the resort.

Through the program's existence, beneficiaries have included a wide range of junior sporting clubs from across Brisbane and surrounds, including Taringa Rovers, Brothers Rugby, Easts Rugby, Downey Park & Western Districts Netball Association to name a few, as well as Keperra & Nudgee Golf Clubs and more recently, the White Cloud sports program. Some of the juniors from St Cat’s and Taringa Rovers even got to hang out with the FIFA World Cup Trophy when it visited Tangalooma!

The alliance with the White Cloud Foundation began in 2021, when the tremendous stress of COVID led the Resort to seek the support of the foundation for its own staff. The White Cloud Foundation is a Queensland-based not-for-profit organisation founded in 2011. Its mission is to provide practical support and easy access to treatment and early intervention programs for people living with or at risk of developing depression and anxiety in its many forms. By partnering with the White Cloud Sport program, Tangalooma hopes to help support not only the wellbeing of their own staff, but the mental fitness of thousands of athletes, junior players, administrators, families, and other affiliates associated with the sporting clubs in and around Queensland.

By supporting various charitable organizations and community clubs, the resort hopes to forge a stronger connection between its business and the wider community. It recognizes that many community organizations rely on donations and sponsorships to run their programs and is proud to be in a position to give back to the community who have been so supportive of the resort during the current owners’ more than 40-year tenure.

Situated right on Brisbane's doorstep, Tangalooma Island Resort offers a unique escape for anyone looking for a quick getaway. From family gatherings and movie shoots (who can forget the iconic Scooby Doo movie filmed at Tangalooma?) to elite sporting training camps, weddings and more, the resort can host a diverse array of events, providing a memorable experience for all. As Tangalooma Island Resort continues its journey of community support and philanthropy, it hopes to make a difference beyond offering Brisbane locals’ favourite island getaway. Together, we can make a positive impact that resonates far beyond the shores of Tangalooma.
