FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ Trophy Tour: Brisbane/Meeanjin

It has been an exciting last few months at Tangalooma, with a tonne of incredible film shoots and tours being held at our beloved Resort. In a perfect fusion of sports and quintessential Australian scenery, and to kick off the Brisbane/Meeanjin leg of the highly anticipated FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, Tangalooma Island Resort had the honour of hosting the famous WWC Trophy Tour, adding to our legacy of supporting world-class athletes.

As a proud supporter of women’s soccer (yes “soccer”, we will die on this hill!), we were thrilled to immerse ourself in the excitement surrounding the Matildas. The tour not only brought the prestigious trophy to our shores, but also gave fans the chance to truly get involved in the spirit of the sport.

When we learned that the trophy was going to touchdown on Tangalooma terrain, we knew we had to invite the amazing junior soccer clubs that we sponsor. Representatives aged 7-12 from St Catherines United FC (Middle Park) and Taringa Rovers SFC were invited to share in a special moment with the esteemed trophy and Aussie soccer legends Connie Selby and Jamilla Rankin. It’s safe to say some of these kids were a little star struck meeting a couple of sporting idols, making sure they got a signature and photo to mark the meeting.

After an exciting meet and greet with some awesome once in a lifetime photos, the kids showed off their skills and had a fierce battle of the teams with a match down on the beach. We definitely saw a few future Matildas superstars in the mix!

Speaking of legends, we then had the privilege of welcoming former Arsenal Premier League striker Ian Wright to the Resort to experience a taste of Brisbane life. The English mega-star enjoyed an exhilarating day of quad biking and snorkelling at our iconic Tangalooma Wrecks, topped off with a scenic helicopter flight over the island and bay.
