NRL Makes a Splash at Tangalooma

In anticipation of the Women’s State of Origin and the NRL Magic Round that Brisbane hosted this year, NRL legend Sam Thaiday, as well as NRLW stars Romy Teitzel, Millie Elliot and Keeley Davis, along with Danika Mason, Channel 9 Sports Presenter, visited Tangalooma Island Resort for some fun.

Representing New South Wales, Millie Elliot and Keeley Davis, arrived at the resort in style via helicopter looking down upon Queensland players Sam and Romy waiting on the beachfront, setting the stage for the competition ahead.

The idea for the promotional video was an Amazing Race style competition, and amazing it was! After Danika explained the rules, the athletes were required to run down the sand, dive into the sea and swim around a checkpoint, before making it back onto shore and racing down to the finish line. Sam Thaiday sported his XXXX gold budgie smugglers, although they did not seem to assist in the race, as Thaiday swam through the waves at a pace significantly slower than the girls.

In the end, it was the New South Wales team that took out the win, with Millie Boyle crossing the finish line first. Sometime later, Sam Thaiday made his way back onto the beach to his teammate Romy, whilst the New South Wales players basked in the win.

The origin race, which aired courtesy of Channel 9, showcased the stunning Tangalooma beach as the perfect backdrop for the spirited rivalry between the two states.
