EcoMarines Adventure Day at Tangalooma: Inspiring Young Environmental Leaders

On 11 September 2025, Tangalooma Island Resort welcomed around 200 student ambassadors from schools across Queensland for the second EcoMarines Adventure Day of the year. The students enjoyed a full day of environmental education, hands-on workshops and memorable island experiences.

Adventure Days are a highlight on the EcoMarines calendar, giving students the opportunity to connect with like-minded peers as well as learn from environmental leaders. The day also inspires students by showcasing and discussing the amazing projects happening at other schools.

The day featured engaging sessions with EcoMarines’ partners and suppliers, including Urban Utilities, Port of Brisbane, Composta, Energex and Brisbane City Council. Through interactive presentations and workshops, ambassadors explored key topics such as sustainability, waste reduction, renewable energy, water conservation and local environmental challenges.

The Tangalooma Eco Centre played a central role in the day's activities, delivering marine ecology talks, citizen science workshops and beach-based learning sessions. Students learned how to collect and share environmental data in meaningful ways and discovered the power of social media to amplify their sustainability messages. The workshops also provided practical fundraising tips and success stories from past ambassador projects.

In smaller groups made up of students from different schools, students took part in a variety of hands-on workshops led by their partners and suppliers. These sessions encouraged problem-solving and teamwork, giving ambassadors the chance to explore sustainability topics in a fun and engaging way while fostering a strong sense of shared purpose.

A major highlight of the day was participating in Tangalooma’s wild dolphin feeding program, offering students a rare and memorable encounter that reinforced the importance of protecting marine life and ecosystems.

Feedback from teachers, students and suppliers was overwhelmingly positive, with the September Adventure Day being praised for its perfect blend of training, inspiration and fun. We can’t wait to welcome the next wave of EcoMarines ambassadors back to Tangalooma in 2026!
