Pirate Day Fundraiser

For the second year in a row, Tangalooma was overrun by pirates with a purpose! From swashbuckling staff to spirited guests, the resort came alive as our jolly crew rallied together to raise awareness and vital funds for The Kids' Cancer Project.

Pirate Day is an annual event held during May, Childhood Brain Cancer Awareness Month. Funds raised throughout the day help equip childhood brain cancer researchers with the resources needed to develop more effective, less harmful treatments for children battling brain cancer.

The story behind Pirate Day is as inspiring as it is heartfelt. Pirate day was founded by Nathan Colgan after his son, Conor, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. When doctors shared that research offered the greatest hope for a cure, Nathan turned heartbreak into action.

In 2014, Conor’s school hosted the very first Pirate Day, inspired by the eye patch he wore during treatment. What began as one brave boy’s story, grew into a nationwide movement dedicated to raising vital funds and supporting children facing brain cancer across Australia.

Tangalooma is proud to say that we have smashed our fundraising goal of $2500 and successfully raised a mega $ 3,338! We want to thank everyone who supported and contributed to Pirate Day 2026. The generosity shown throughout the event is an important reminder of the difference a community can make when united behind a cause that truly matters. Together, we are turning awareness into action!
