School holidays have arrived again, bringing with them the dreaded question from kids everywhere: “I’m bored, what are we doing today?” While you may be focused on packing the next couple of weeks with entertainment and activities, there’s no reason why time spent away from the classroom shouldn’t be educational too!
To help, we’ve listed the top FREE educational (and fun!) things to do at Tangalooma to keep your kids entertained and spark their curiosity. Keep the whole family happy these holidays with these educational activities.
Join our Tangalooma Eco Rangers at the jetty to learn about the largest of the pelican species, the Australian Pelican. During the feed Tangalooma Rangers will tell you more about these charismatic birds, the cheeky Pied Cormorants and any other sea and shore birds that grace the shores of Tangalooma. On occasion even a whistling kite drops by to visit and may catch a fish in mid-flight!
If your kids love dolphins as much as we do they’ll love the Discover the Wold of Dolphins Talk. Learn all about the Wild Dolphin Feeding Program, the dolphins characteristics, family groups and wild dolphin behaviour and have a Tangalooma Eco Ranger answer all of your dolphin related questions.
Ever wanted to learn more about this iconic Australian bird and meet one (or several!) up close? Join our Eco Rangers for the daily Kookaburra feeding and have the opportunity to learn about their diet, breeding habits, their distinctive laugh and so much more.
Kids will have a ‘whale’ of a time at the Tangalooma Marine and Education Centre. Learn about marine species and ecosystems from the island’s very own team of Eco Rangers plus there’s an array of interesting animal bones and educational books on offer.
Calling all budding sailor’s… If your kids are interested in an introduction into boating and want to learn how to sail, join the staff from Tanga Watersports for a catamaran briefing. If your feeling adventurous and want to try your newly learned skills, there is Catamaran hire available.
Ever wanted to learn how a helicopter flies? Enjoy a free helicopter workshop and get the chance to meet and speak with the pilots who fly over Moreton Island every day. Awesome photo opportunity too!
