Tangalooma Island Resort donates $7,500 to Kids Cancer Research

On the back of a record breaking whale watching season at Tangalooma Island Resort, the team recently came together to bid farewell to the magnificent marine giants and presenting the Kids’ Cancer Project with a donation of $7,500!

For the second year running, Tangalooma Island Resort partnered with The Kids’ Cancer Project, donating $5 for every whale sighted from Tangalooma’s whale watching vessel, the Tangalooma Jet.

During the 2017 season there were a total of 1,203 whales sighted over 101 trips, with the remaining funds coming from voluntary customer donations.

The partnership between Tangalooma Island Resort and The Kids’ Cancer Project was driven by Resort Manager, Brianna Preobrajensky and her own personal experience with her son Oscar’s battle with cancer.

“Tangalooma Island Resort has been a proud supporter of The Kids’ Cancer Project for many years now, and given our first-hand experience with the organisation and the incredible work they do, this is one partnership we endeavour to maintain for years to come.”

“The sad reality is, cancer kills more children than any other disease in Australia, so if we can contribute in any way towards raising awareness and funds for childhood cancer research, then we will,” said Ms Preobrajensky.

The Kids’ Cancer Project are an independent national charity dedicated to supporting childhood cancer research. They work with some of the world’s best scientists to fund the boldest research which they hope will one-day defeat this indiscriminating disease.

“This ongoing partnership between Tangalooma and The Kids’ Cancer Project is a true display of community and common goals. We are so thankful to Tangalooma for their support again this year.”

“To date we’ve committed over $36 million to childhood cancer research, and won’t stop until we see a one hundred percent survival rate for children with cancer,” said Owen Finegan, Chief Executive of The Kids’ Cancer Project.

Tangalooma Island Resort has the closest whale watching experience available to Brisbane residents, with tours departing direct from Brisbane to Moreton Island.

About The Kids’ Cancer Project
