Community Sport Sponsorship Fund

Tangalooma Island Resort's Community sponsorship program continued to go from strength to strength in 2024, with the resort providing financial support, in-kind contributions, and fundraising activations for numerous junior sporting clubs, charities and other deserving organisations.

Early on in the year, members of the resort staff supported White Cloud’s annual Leaping Ladies & Leaping Lads fundraising initiatives. Each year, a select group of ladies & men are invited to abseil down the cliffs of Kangaroo Point in Brisbane to both raise awareness for mental health as well as raise money to support White Cloud Foundation’s essential mental health and wellbeing programs. A fear of heights was overcome in the quest to raise much needed funds as Tangalooma staff joined a group of inspirational and philanthropic men & women as they took a leap of faith.

In September, members of the resort staff swapped their abseiling harnesses for running shoes, once more supporting White Cloud as they ran, jogged or walked the Bridge to Brisbane in front of record crowds. The Bridge to Brisbane is one of Queensland’s most iconic events and runners can choose between a wide variety of charities to support. At the end of the run, the Tangalooma dolphin mascot was there to greet all the weary runners with funds again raised to help provide free and easy access to psychologists, social workers, dietitians and other mental health professionals through the White Cloud Tele-Mental Health Service.

The resort continued to expand its Community Sport Fund, supporting additional clubs including the Southwest Metro Basketball Association and Valley Cricket Club, recognising the vital role of sport in youth health and wellbeing. This year the resort will add Pine Rivers Football Club to its portfolio, with funds and prize vouchers used to pay for uniforms, equipment and other costs associated with running a sports club.

Another highlight from 2024 was handing over the ‘big cheque’ to the Kids’ Cancer Project following a successful Whale Watching season. Tangalooma donates $5 for every whale spotted during whale watching season, and with our guests experiencing 1,342 curious whales breaching, playing, and showing off over the course of 101 Whale Watch Cruises, we were able to donate $6,710 to the Kids’ Cancer Project in 2024.

Tangalooma Island Resort's 2024 sponsorship calendar showcased a deep commitment to community and environmental wellbeing. The resort awarded a number of prizes to organisations like ‘Dance For Daniel’ and ‘Smile For Sophie’, bolstering their fundraising efforts. Environmental initiatives included ongoing support for Sea Shepherd by facilitating beach cleanups and merchandise sales, and the EcoMarines Foundation, including hosting excited EcoMarines ambassadors to the resort in May, demonstrating the resort’s ongoing dedication to preserving the precious environment that is Moreton Bay.

The year ended on a high with the announcement of the new partnership with the Brisbane Broncos as an Official Preseason Connection Partner and ongoing Support Partner. Looking forward to 2025, Tangalooma plans to expand its impactful initiatives, including increased support for The Kids' Cancer Project through a Pirate Day activation, enhanced collaboration with Sea Shepherd on educational programs and the continuation of support to White Cloud and the numerous sporting clubs across Brisbane and surrounds. For Tangalooma Island Resort, these partnerships are more than just a partnership – they are a way of giving back. As part of a wider community sponsorship program, Tangalooma is deeply committed to supporting the local community.
