Tangalooma Island Resort is thrilled to announce that our sponsored athlete, Harry Takis, has reached a stunning new career milestone.
With a stunning start to the season, Harry has rocketed to become the #1 ranked golfer in NCAA Division I Men’s Golf for the first time.
To put this in perspective, the US College system is the premier training ground for the world's best future professionals. For a Brisbane local to be sitting at the very top of that leaderboard—above the best emerging talent in America - is a phenomenal achievement.
This rise to the top hasn't happened by accident. It follows a defining summer where Harry made his debut at the prestigious Crown Australian Open.
Walking the fairways of Royal Melbourne in December, Harry found himself in a field featuring genuine golf royalty, including major winners Rory McIlroy, Adam Scott and Cameron Smith. Competing on the same stage as major champions was a priceless learning curve, hardening his game and giving him a taste of the level required to compete with the world's best.
Sharing the fairways with major champions and world-ranked players is a rare opportunity for an amateur. For Harry, it is a chance to learn from the best and measure his progress against the very standard he aspires to reach.
Harry took that experience and immediately translated it into results, launching an incredible run of form in both Australia and the USA:
2nd Place: Australian Master of the Amateurs (Jan 2026): Harry kicked off the year by finishing runner-up at this prestigious event in Melbourne. He surged up the leaderboard with a final round 66, finishing just two shots off the lead in one of the world's elite amateur tournaments.
1st Place: Southwestern Invitational (Jan 2026): Back in the US, Harry claimed his maiden collegiate title in California, birdieing the final hole to win by two strokes.
2nd Place: John A. Burns Intercollegiate (Feb 2026): He continued his hot streak just last week in Hawaii, finishing second and solidifying his top ranking.
Reaching the summit of US College golf while juggling major tournaments in Australia and Asia is a logistical marathon. It requires singular focus. This is where Tangalooma Island Resort’s major sponsorship of Harry Takis makes a tangible difference.
Competing across two continents is expensive. By covering the significant costs of travel, equipment, and accommodation, we ensure Harry doesn't have to worry about how to afford the next tournament, only how to win it.
Harry’s rise to become Australia's #1 Amateur Golfer, an Australian Open debutant, and the current US #1 college golfer is proof that when elite talent meets the right support, anything is possible. We are thrilled to see a local Queensland talent taking his game to the world stage.
The entire Tangalooma family is behind you. Congratulations on reaching Number One, Harry! It’s a long and winding journey ahead but we are proud of you achieving this milestone on your ongoing golfing journey.
