Brisbane Schools' Premier Environmental Education Program: EcoMarines Foundation
EcoMarines is a Queensland-based environmental education organization that focuses on empowering students, teachers, and communities to protect marine environments. Through programs, workshops, and hands-on projects like beach clean-ups and waste reduction initiatives, EcoMarines promotes stewardship of natural habitats and raises awareness of issues like pollution and sustainability. Established in 2014 by Tangalooma Island Resort, the program has expanded significantly in recent years, focusing on environmental education and action.
Originally known as the Tangalooma EcoMarines, the initiative transitioned into the independent EcoMarines Foundation in 2022. This shift allowed the program to expand beyond Brisbane, reaching more schools and communities across Queensland, while still benefiting from the resort’s ongoing support. With over 230 schools involved, the foundation has inspired thousands of students to lead sustainability initiatives, such as recycling and habitat restoration, creating a lasting impact on their communities and ecosystems.
