Long deep dive day
The whales were quite elusive today, as they repeated deep dives during the cruise. The first whales were sighted in the shallow water, north of Moreton Island. Moreton Bay Marine Park has an average depth of 25 metres, with many shallow sand banks. These first two whales were swimming above a shallow sand bank (max. 5 metres depth) so it was incredible to see their outlines of their bodies under the water! After we watched these two, we continued to Flinders Reef.
We soon sighted more pods of elusive Humpbacks that performed deep dives. As we played hide and seek with these whales, we soon got to see a fantastic double breach, only 300m from the Tangalooma Jet! It was great to end the whale watch cruise with a big splash!
