EcoMarines & The Kids Cancer Project

Tangalooma supports numerous charities and community groups throughout the year and is always touched to see people working together for a good cause. Two very special not-for-profit charities Tangalooma are especially involved in are the Kids’ Cancer Project and the Tangalooma EcoMarines.

Since 2016, Tangalooma has been donating $5 for every whale spotted during our Whale Watching season to the Kids Cancer Project, a remarkable charity supporting early childhood cancer research. With the Whale Watching season ending in October, this year we donated $6,119 to the Kids’ Cancer Project. A further $4237 was raised by donations from guests at the Resort. We are so grateful for the work the Kids’ Cancer Projects do.

In the same month, the Tangalooma EcoMarines school-based not-for-profit celebrated another successful year at their event, ‘The Wave’. Hosted at the Brisbane Convention centre, The Wave brings together the charity’s EcoMarine ambassadors who are busily working to spread eco messages throughout their school and community to protect our beautiful Moreton Bay.

Joined by the inspirational Hon Leeanne Enoch MP who helped raised funds for the charity, Uncle Bob, and other influential community members, the day was all about thanking the kids and teachers who work tirelessly year round to spread a message of conservation.

Kids are our future, and it’s so important they’re educated about human impacts to our environment. The EcoMarines program’s goal is to teach kids to in turn teach other kids.

We were touched to hear stirring stories throughout the day, like Clayfield College’s Adopt a Street initiative where students endeavour to clean up local surrounding streets. The EcoMarines at Clayfield also announced that their tuckshop will no longer be providing plastic straws or cutlery in 2019.

Schools also entered the Cleanaway’s Waste Warrior Challenge where creative artworks were made of common waste items found in the school yard. The winner this year was Banksia Beach State School who created a beautiful jellyfish with 530 pieces of rubbish and food wrappers.

Tangalooma supports a variety of different charities, schools and social bodies across South-East Queensland and we pride ourselves on being able to give back to the local community.
