Tangalooma achieves internationally recognised Gold EarthCheck Accreditation
Tangalooma Island Resort has successfully achieved EarthCheck's Gold Certification status for the first time, marking an important milestone in the resort's sustainable development.
Gold Certification with EarthCheck recognises five years of independent certification to the world's leading scientific benchmarking and certification program for sustainable tourism.
To achieve Gold Certification, Tangalooma has had to meet EarthCheck's rigorous environmental standards across ten key performance areas spanning greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, conservation and management, land use planning and management, and waste management.
Tangalooma Island Resort Director, Jeff Osborne, emphasised the Resort's strong focus on sustainability & continuous improvement towards reaching eco-tourism goals.
"Our situation amongst Moreton Island's National & Marine Parks means we have a responsibility to preserve and protect our unique environment, so we can continue to offer the amazing tours, activities & experiences we have here at Tangalooma for future generations.
"We are thrilled to receive Gold recognition by EarthCheck as an acknowledgement of our efforts so far", he said.
Key environmental initiatives achieved by Tangalooma Island Resort in 2021/22 include:

Working closely with National Parks, Marine Parks, SeaWorld, Alf Bowden Bird Rescue, and Twinnies Bird Rescue centre to assist in rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing injured or sick animals back into the environment, including providing evacuation from Moreton Island for veterinary care where needed

Implementation of an on-site worm farm to process kitchen waste & development of veggie gardens to supply the resort's commercial kitchen with basic needs

Planting of over 1500 pioneer dune species as part of sand dune regeneration & erosion prevention

Storm water redirection into soakage bunds to maximise recovery of the water table to be reused in irrigation
EarthCheck CEO and Founder, Mr Stewart Moore, congratulated the Tangalooma Island Resort team on their long-term sustainability commitment.
"This achievement recognises the ongoing commitment from the resort to environmental stewardship and taking meaningful steps to measure, monitor and minimise waste, energy and water consumption on the island.
