The journey continues for Tangalooma Island Resort’s ambassador Harry Takis. Fresh off his historic "
Singapore Hat-Trick", where he claimed the Top Amateur Trophy at the Moutai Singapore Open, the Brisbane local has secured a coveted spot in the field for the
2025 Crown Australian Open.
This selection marks a significant milestone in Harry's career. It represents a major step up from the amateur ranks to competing directly on one of the country's most prestigious stages. This year, the tournament returns to the hallowed grounds of the
Royal Melbourne Golf Club from December 4–7, widely considered one of the finest tests of golf on the planet.
A Dream Realised
For Harry, gaining entry to his national open is the result of years of quiet dedication and sacrifice. However, the young athlete views this not as a finish line, but as a vital learning experience on his path toward professional golf.
Speaking on his selection, Harry shared what this opportunity means to him:
"To tee it up at the Australian Open, especially at a venue as iconic as Royal Melbourne, is a moment I have visualised for years. It really is a dream come true and validates the thousands of hours I’ve dedicated to this game. While I’m trying to soak it all in, I’m also focused on the bigger picture. This tournament is exactly where I want to be - testing my game against the best pros in the business. It is just another step I am taking towards achieving everything there is to achieve in golf, and I’m ready to see how my game stacks up."

Rubbing Shoulders with Giants
Harry will be testing his game against a field stacked with global talent. He enters the tournament alongside Australian icons
Adam Scott,
Cameron Smith,
Marc Leishman, and
Min Woo Lee, as well as international heavyweights like
Rory McIlroy and
Joaquin Niemann.
Sharing the fairways with major champions and world-ranked players is a rare opportunity for an amateur. For Harry, it is a chance to learn from the best and measure his progress against the very standard he aspires to reach.
Chasing the Stonehaven Cup
The Australian Open is not just another event; it is the oldest and most prestigious championship in Australian golf. By teeing it up at Royal Melbourne, Harry is walking in the footsteps of the game’s greatest legends.
The Stonehaven Cup has been lifted by titans of the sport including
Jack Nicklaus,
Gary Player,
Greg Norman,
Rory McIlroy and
Jordan Spieth. To compete for the same title that these icons once chased is a powerful reminder of the history Harry is now a part of.
Harry’s American Pathway
Harry’s recent progress runs parallel to his time at
San Diego State University (SDSU) in the United States. As a key member of the Aztecs golf program, Harry is immersed in the highly competitive NCAA system, which is widely recognised as the premier training ground for future PGA Tour players.
His time at SDSU is providing him with access to world-class training facilities, elite coaching and the weekly challenge of competing against strong international talent. This experience is hardening his game and preparing him for the rigours of professional life.
Tangalooma’s Unwavering Support
Balancing an elite US college schedule with major tournaments in Asia and Australia requires significant logistical and financial resources. This is where
Tangalooma Island Resort’s major sponsorship of Harry Takis plays a critical role.
By supporting Harry’s travel and competitive needs, Tangalooma is ensuring that distance is never a barrier to his development. We are incredibly proud to see a local Queensland talent taking his game global.
The entire Tangalooma family will be watching Melbourne closely this December. Good luck, Harry!
