Peek a boo, I see you!

Guests on board the Tangalooma Jet were extremely lucky to see a total of 10 Humpback whales today. One of these whales performed a spectacular spy hop! A spy hop occurs when the whale raises its head vertically out of the water, without the mouth open or the ventral pleats extended. When a spy hop occurs, the whale is stationary and the flippers are outstrected beneath the surface. On some occassions, whales will clear the water first with their flippers or tails, creating a circular window, from which they can more easily look through the surface of the water. This definitely was a very observant whale!
