Personal 4WD Vehicle Access & Parking

Personal Four Wheel Drive Vehicle Access & Parking at Tangalooma Island resort

Looking to bring your own 4WD to Tangalooma so you can explore Moreton Island? Refer to the handy information below.

Can you drive to Tangalooma from Brisbane?

No, Tangalooma is located on Moreton Island, off the coast of Brisbane. There are no bridges to Moreton Island, there are no sealed roads on the Island and the only access is by boat.

To save time, convenience and cost we recommend all our guests take the passenger ferry to Tangalooma that departs from Holt St Pinkenba (Brisbane), 4 times daily. You can even hire one of our own 4WDs at the Resort if you'd prefer!

We strongly recommend only experienced 4WD drivers bring their vehicles to Moreton Island to ensure the protection & safety of you and your vehicle in our remote location.

However, if you are experienced at driving 4WD vehicles on the beach, and want to bring your car over to the Resort for your upcoming stay, we are happy to accommodate you. You will need to make your own arrangements to bring the 4WD over on the Moreton Island Vehicle Barge, operated by another provider.

Moreton Island 4WD Vehicle Barge

The Micat vehicle barge provides 4WD vehicle access to the residents and communities of Moreton Island on set days and times. Departing from the Port of Brisbane, the Micat embarks at the Tangalooma Wrecks, approximately 30 minutes north of the Resort Reception on foot, and a 5 minute 4WD drive to the Resort's Northern car park (for official Resort guests only).

Note that this Vehicle Barge is not operated by Tangalooma Island Resort. If you plan to arrive by Micat on foot (official guests only) please note that the Resort is approximately 2km away and there is no pick-up service available to or from the barge landing point to the Resort. If arriving by 4WD please note that the Resort parking lots could be located some distance from your accommodation. Tangalooma Island Resort takes no responsibility for the transportation of persons or luggage to their property from either Micat or Resort parking lots (even in poor weather). For timetable and charges information, bookings and enquiries please use the contact details below.

Where can official guests park their 4WD vehicles upon arrival?

Upon check-in, pre-booked authorised visitors arriving to the Resort in a 4WD will be asked to use the northern or southern car parks at the entries to the Resort. Some accommodation such as holiday house rentals may have parking on-site, and we will provide details on how to access such properties after check-in.

Please be aware the location of the car parks can be some distance from your accommodation. As a 3½ star resort, we are unable to offer a transfer service between the car park and your accommodation. There is a limited supply of luggage trolleys and these trolleys cannot be guaranteed to be readily at the time of your arrival.

Please also note that Tangalooma Island Resort takes no responsibility for vehicles parked in the Island car parks. We thoroughly recommend car owners have travel insurance before travelling to Moreton Island.

I have not pre-booked my visit to Tangalooma. Can I still park my 4WD here to access the Resort?

No. Tangalooma Island Resort facilities and car parks are only accessible by official Resort guests.
