By Tangalooma Island Resort
From 30 July to 1 August, the shores of Moreton Island came alive as Tangalooma Island Resort hosted Global Link Australia 2025: a vibrant three-day student forum dedicated to environmental sustainability and global collaboration.
This year’s event was the most successful yet, drawing students from 26 teams across seven countries. Over three inspiring days, students presented their projects in an international competition judged by an expert panel and took part in hands-on activities designed to empower them as the next generation of sustainability leaders. Beyond the competition, the event fostered meaningful cultural exchange, as students connected across borders and learned from each other’s perspectives.
Adding to the excitement, 4BC Radio broadcasted live from the resort throughout the forum. Listeners were treated to live interviews with students, who shared their experiences, goals and reflections on what sustainability means to their generation.
Tangalooma leads the way in environmental edu-tourism with Global Link Australia, bringing together young people who are passionate about creating real change in their communities and beyond. The 2025 competition had a record-breaking turnout and proved that voices of the youth are stronger, and more necessary, than ever.
From the opening ceremony to the final workshop, students were immersed in engaging experiences—presenting their own sustainability projects, tackling group challenges and participating in hands-on environmental fieldwork. Beyond the core program, the itinerary mixed in plenty of fun and adventure, from a thrilling desert safari with sand tobogganing, to the immersive bush tucker walk, wild dolphin feeding and a high-energy Eco Challenge hosted by Banana Life. This balance encouraged collaboration and cultural exchange, helping students form meaningful connections that will last well beyond the event.
One of the most exciting moments of the competition was the announcement of the 2025 Gold Award Winners, recognising exceptional projects and leadership in sustainability.
We’re proud to congratulate:
🥇 St Anthony’s Catholic College, Deeragun – Forever Pens: micro plastic recycling project. 🥇 Bulimba State School – Frogs in our schoolyard: Saving local species one pond at a time.
🥇 Cannon Hill Anglican College – The commercialisation and implementation of the Dunning-Kruger Effect on consumer’s understanding of and action on sustainability.
These schools stood out for their innovative solutions, teamwork and strong commitment to environmental action. Their projects were both inspiring and practical examples of student-led impact.
Global Link Australia 2025 brought together a diverse, passionate group of young people with a shared goal: protecting the planet. With more participation than ever before, it’s clear that the movement is growing and gaining momentum.
Plans for Global Link Australia 2026 are already underway, and if early interest is any sign, next year will be bigger and better than ever! More countries, more schools, and even more student-led action.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this event, from the students and educators to our speakers, judges and supporters. Together, we're building a global network of future leaders committed to sustainability, collaboration and action.
We can't wait to welcome you next year!
