A secret beach on Moreton Island that is all about love
Between the rocky Cape Moreton and North Point lies Moreton Island’s picture perfect Honeymoon Bay. Looking like something from a movie, the hidden picturesque half-moon shaped beach is about 50 metres wide, making it the perfect spot for a refreshing swim but be careful as it can be dominated by rips, hidden rocks and large waves.
Honeymoon Bay is the most famous of the four small pocket beaches near Cape Moreton. These beaches are great for exploring and are usually deserted. A great tip is to bring a picnic basket to Honeymoon Bay and surprise your friends and family with a remote picnic at a seemingly private beach.
How to find Honeymoon Bay
Honeymoon Bay is easily accessible from the North Point of the island. The walk is about 2km from Cape Moreton so allow for about a 30 minutes (60 minutes return walk). The walk starts at the road near Cape Moreton, then through the campgrounds and on to a walking track which leads to a gully behind the beach. When travelling to Honeymoon Bay remember to wear sturdy shoes (bring thongs for the sand), bring enough water and slip, slop, slap when in the sun.
With its movie scene looks, the hidden picturesque beach, shaped like a Half-moon, is about 50 metres wide, making it the perfect spot for a refreshing swim - but be careful to not go too far out as Honeymoon Bay, known as a hazardous beach, can be dominated by rips, hidden rocks and large waves.
