Beautiful conditions for the 11 Humpbacks

Yet another day of beautiful conditions, we were incredibly lucky to see 11 Humpbacks whales today and countless more off in the distance. On the run out from Tangalooma on the luxurious Tangalooma Jet, we were greeted with clear water and glass out conditions.

A very playful bottlenose dolphin guided the 40m vessel through the complex passage of shallow banks on the northern side of the island. As we made our way toward Cape Moreton, the guests were joyously pointing out to the many whale blows out on the horizon.

Initially we were greeted by 2 juveniles that took a curious liking to the vessel before taking deep dives and continuing their journey north. We then witnessed two pods merge, consisting of mothers and calves and wow did these guys put on a show.

The guests got to see tail throw after tail throw, as well as curious little calves getting adventurous and approaching the Jet. After this, a rain cloud loomed over us and seemed as though it was following the boat around Flinders Reef, but still we got to witness a few more juveniles and calves throwing their weight around like they were as light as a feather.

It’s so cool to think that we may see this playful, social bunch on their way back down to Antarctica in a couple of months.
