Whale calves at play

Today we were lucky enough to see 4 mother and calf pairs. We had many breaches from mostly the calves and one mother that joined her calf as he showed off for us. Everyone was amazed at the power that these whales display as they gracefully jump completely out of their water.

We also had a small calf playing around the boat swimming upside down doing a few pectoral flipper slaps before his mother did a couple of tail slaps to tell him to come back to her. They then disappeared as they continued on their migration path back down to Antarctica.

Over this next week the last of the whales will make their way past Moreton Island, with most of them being the last mother calf pairs.
