Most whale sightings in 2017!

When excited guests climbed aboard the Tangalooma Jet on this beautiful October afternoon, no one had any idea just how many of these incredible Humpback Whales we would spot...

Within the first five minutes of our cruise we were inundated with three pods of whales, with intense breaching just meters away from the vessel. As we remained stunned by this incredible display, a mother came right beside the boat displaying her sheer strength and incredible size with some bellowing pectoral slaps.

As these pectoral slaps continued rippling through the water with immense force, her calf broke through the surface of the water displaying a sudden breach to impress his mother.

After watching this incredible behaviour we headed further out of the stunning waters of Moreton Bay into the open ocean, passing by multiple pods every ten minutes.

At one point the Tangalooma Jet was completely surrounded by pods of whales, continuously breaching and communicating. The boat fell silent in awe of this sight, as guests watched from aboard in disbelief of the vast amount of courtship behaviour that was unfolding before us. The boat seemed almost invisible to the adult males as they ruthlessly pursued the females throughout the bay.

Not only did we fall witness to this astounding behaviour today but we have been lucky enough to break the record of the season spotting 34 whales in total!! A truly stupendous day to be on board the Tangalooma Whale Watch.
