Strange unidentified whale sighting in Moreton Bay

The beautiful weather complemented today’s whale watch, with little swell and no breeze around us, as we cruised through the crystal clear blue waters of Moreton Bay. The area we whale watched was off northern Moreton Island. Guests were thrilled to see up to 8 whales on today’s cruise. All these whales were so relaxed today, as they slowly swam just meters from the Tangalooma Jet! The water visibility was unreal as well, and we could clearly see the whales as they performed dives.

While we watched two Humpbacks, we noticed another unique whale join their pod. This whale was unique as it had a large and lifted blowhole, no hump shape in its back as it surfaced, and an inverted tail. Thorough research was conducted after the whale watch cruise and we could not determine the exact species of the unique whale, and this made us wonder if it was a deformed or hybrid Humpback whale. It was so interesting to see such a unique looking whale swim amongst two other Humpbacks, and we are hoping it’s one of a kind!
