13th - 19th July 2018 - Weekly Whale Watching Wrap

It’s been an absolute ripper of a whale watch this week we had close encounters with 70 whales! We are being conservative as every day we are seeing more and more whale “blows” but only investigating our most active whales, we can afford to be picky as we are completely spoiled for choice!

We definitely have a bit of an advantage having three forms of whale watching available here at Tangalooma we are able to radio the Cape Moreton whale watch on the headland and also get information from our helicopter pilots to make sure we are always in the best spot!

We had one of the most incredible weekends, on Saturday we witnessed one whale absolutely steal the show with over 30 breaches close to the boat! We all thought we were incredibly lucky to see this behaviour repeated because it’s very hard to predict when and where a whale will leap out of the water but when it’s been repeated so frequently it provides plenty of great photo opportunities.

It was so impressive our footage made it across to multiple news networks!

We have had lake like conditions so even the people most prone to seasickness haven’t had any issues, on Wednesday we hardly even had a ripple on the surface which made it very easy to see a pod of about 60 bottlenose dolphins! The annual mullet migration has attracted the attention of a lot of the dolphins in the area we’ve seen them on almost every whale watch this week!

The amount of surface action we’ve had lately has left us all with very high expectations but with over 50 breaches and almost as many tail slaps and pectoral slaps too match we don’t think we will have any trouble.
