Event Testimonial - Carers QLD

2025 Retreat to Tangalooma

Why did Carers QLD select Tangalooma Island Resort for their retreat?

Carers Queensland offers free retreats for unpaid carers across various locations in Queensland. These retreats aim to raise awareness within communities and organisations about the role of carers, while also providing carers with a much-needed break from their responsibilities. The retreats offer opportunities to connect with others in similar roles and enjoy experiences they may not otherwise be able to afford. Tangalooma Island Resort was chosen as it was a new and exciting destination we hadn’t previously explored, offering a fresh experience for our carers.

How did the product suit your guests and what selection criteria did Tangalooma fulfil to make it the destination of choice?

Tangalooma Island Resort met several key criteria for our Carer Retreat. It offered:

  • A unique and engaging location for carers to unwind.

  • The capacity to accommodate a large group comfortably.

  • Access to conference facilities suitable for our program.

  • A variety of activities that allowed carers to disconnect from the busyness of everyday life.

  • The resort provided the perfect balance of relaxation, connection, and logistical support.

How was the overall experience? Including comments on the activities and food experience?

The overall experience at Tangalooma exceeded our expectations. The food was plentiful and delicious, with generous servings throughout the day. The Shipwrecks and Fish Feeding tour was a standout activity, thoroughly enjoyed by all. Staff were consistently friendly, supportive, and welcoming, contributing to a positive and memorable experience for our group.

Did Tangalooma help you overcome any challenges in the organisation of your conference? If so, how?

Yes, Tangalooma staff were incredibly helpful in managing unexpected challenges. When one carer needed to return to the mainland early due to a medical issue, staff promptly assisted with our request to ensure the carer was able to return to the mainland on the next ferry.  Leading up to the event, the resort’s support team ensured quick responses to our queries and provided essential resources such as maps, emergency diagrams, and check-in information. Their proactive communication made the planning process smooth and efficient.

Did your trip stand out from other events you’ve had in the past. Why?
Weather was fantastic! Tangalooma staff prior to the event, during and after were fantastic, everyone knew we were coming, extremely helpful and checked in with us during the day to ensure we were happy and answered all of our questions.

What were the “triumphs” or highlights from the conference? All carers had a smile on their faces from the early morning ferry transfer, through to departure from the ferry in the late afternoon.  Carers reported they felt relaxed, revitalised and rejuvenated even though it had been an extremely long day. The Ship Wreaks and Fish Feeding tour was the highlight of the day.  From an organisation perspective the information and data we receive from our carers is the most important and to have happy carers.
